BACKGROUND
I hold a bachelors in fashion design from NCAD, Dublin and spent three years as a pattern-cutter in London with fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen. My holistic way of working is shaped by my training as a tailor on Savile Row where I was educated in materiality, craftsmanship and designing for individual bodily needs. These skills were then adapted during five years developing medical wearable technology in Ireland and the Netherlands.
In 2020, I completed a masters in product design engineering at NTNU in Norway that focuses on participatory, inclusive and empathetic design.
Currently, I am in the final stages of a 4-year practice-based PhD project entitled “Sensory Nourishment: inclusive clothing design practices for neurodivergent sensory needs.” Since April 2024, I have been translating the academic research insights into meaningful industry applications, supported by a series of design residencies, social entrepreneurial fellowships and industry collaborations.
studio consultancy
I offer poetic and pragmatic solutions for neurodiverse sensory needs through education, advocacy and design. I invite strategic industry partnerships to pioneer more sensory considerate design and manufacturing practices. I recognise that inclusivity poses both technical and cultural challenges for businesses but also a wealth of opportunities in terms of a vast untapped market, as well as design and manufacturing innovation.
I provide a range of services to kickstart this process:
talks and workshops on sensory design practices,
embodied co-creation of knowledge about diverse lived experiences,
facilitation of participatory design processes,
consultancy on sensorially inclusive product development,
iterative user testing that engages all the senses,
academic design reports and publications.
